Effects of Fibrinogen Concentrate as First-line Therapy during Major Aortic Replacement Surgery: A Randomized, Placebo-controlled Trial
Hemostatic therapy with fibrinogen concentrate in patients undergoing aortic surgery significantly reduced the transfusion of allogeneic blood products. Larger multicenter studies are necessary to confirm the role of fibrinogen concentrate in the management of perioperative bleeding in patients with life-threatening coagulopathy.
Data and Patient Blood Management (Video)
A successful Blood Management Program can help improve hospital performance and deliver value. IMPACT® Online is at the core of our approach to a strong patient blood management program providing insight and analysis into your blood utilization program.
Overview of TEG and Its Use in Cardiac Surgery (Video)
The TEG® 5000 Hemostasis Analyzer System provides a more complete picture of patients hemostasis, thus helping you deliver more targeted treatment. Adding TEG to your hemostasis management can help improve patient outcomes and may decrease healthcare costs.
Managing a Surgical Exsanguination Emergency in the Operating Room through Simulation: An Interdisciplinary Approach
Operating room (OR) emergencies, such as fire, anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest, and exsanguination, are infrequent, but high-risk situations that can result in significant morbidity and mortality.
High Fidelity Case-Based Simulation Debriefing: Everything You Need to Know
In this 30-minute talk, the authors take an in-depth look at how to debrief high-fidelity case-based simulation sessions, including discussion on debriefing theory, goals, approaches, and structure, as well as ways to create a supportive and safe learning environment, resulting in successful small group learning and self-reflection.
Insensible Water Loss from the Hilite 2400LT Oxygenator: An In Vitro Study
The aim of this study is to explore the degree to which free water loss occurs across a commonly used ECMO oxygenator, the polymethylpentene (PMP) membrane Hilite(®) 2400LT (Medos, Medizintechnik AG, Stolberg, Germany).
Preconditioning Protects the Heart in a Prolonged Uremic Condition
We conclude that although prolonged experimental uremia leads to severe metabolic changes and the development of a mild myocardial dysfunction, the cardioprotective effect of ischemic preconditioning is still preserved.
Rapamycin Protects against Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury through JAK2-STAT3 Signaling Pathway
We propose that rapamycin is a novel and clinically relevant pharmacological strategy to target STAT3 activation for treatment of myocardial infarction.
Endogenous Hydrogen Sulfide Mediates the Cardioprotection Induced by Ischemic Postconditioning in the Early Reperfusion Phase
The present study aimed to investigate the role of H(2)S in ischemic postconditioning (IPO) during the early period of reperfusion.
Speaking up is Related to Better Team Performance in Simulated Anesthesia Inductions: An Observational Study
This study provides empirical evidence and shows mechanisms for the positive relationship between speaking-up behavior and technical team performance.
Intralipid, A Clinically Safe Compound, Protects the Heart against Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury more Efficiently than Cyclosporine-A
Here we compared the cardioprotective effects of intralipid with cyclosporine-A, a potent inhibitor of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening.
Evolution of General Surgical Problems in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices
Patients with LVADs frequently require consultation from noncardiac surgeons within the scope of general surgeons and often require operation.
