Editors ‘Note:
I have followed Hussein Najim’s FB page for a couple of years now. I first knew of him from working with Brian Forsberg, CCP on several Iraqi pediatric articles, as well as some collaboration with world famous pediatric heart surgeon, Dr. Bill Novick.
Hussein is also an active participant in the perfusion Facebook group- Perfusionists of Iraq.
I have always been struck how people in war torn areas conduct their professional lives, and surely feel that it takes tremendous courage just to get up sometimes, and get to work- not knowing for certain- that there will be a home to come back to- or worse- a hospital to go to.
So if you are ever unnerved, because it looks like it might be a long hard day- just put yourself into someone else’s shoes- and just maybe- the day won’t be so tough, and the coffee might taste better.
Hi Hussein.
I just want you to write about how you got into perfusion, how your program started up, the types of cases you do, the types of equipment you us, and how difficult it is to run a heart program with so much political and military drama surrounding you on a daily basis.
I admire the Iraqi people and their courage after so much has happened. I think you would have a great perspective.
