Perfusion Art: “The Phoenix Returns”
Editor’s Note:
Quite awhile ago, in the beginning of the 2nd year of it’s life, the young blog CircuitSurfers.com made a revolutionary step, and called out to it’s reader for art submissions to create an on-line International Perfusion Art Gallery. With the help of many contributors, we developed quite a repository of unique art from heart programs as far away as Mongolia. As a natural outgrowth of this project, I mused to myself and my Italian friend and colleague :G”, that I wanted to create an International Perfusion Art Gallery, and show it as an exhibit at a major perfusion conference someday in the future. He told me, “that someday you will recognize your dream”, and I went for it.
Thanks to many contributors and the efforts of the CREF Symposium, hosted in San Diego, CA every year, I was able to bring this dream to fruition in February 2014.
It was a 1200 mile trip from Texas to SD and another 1200 mile leg back. The art then made it’s way to Michigan, where it chilled out in a spare bedroom for awhile. Since I have been down in my hometown in Indiana, doing hearts as a locums perfusionist, I decided to bring what was left of a 24 piece collection (13) and donate them to a hospital that coincidentally, was a place I worked at as a HS student to make extra $ on the side. Full circle Baby! A 360 degree turn, and it doesn’t so odd or coincidental at all.
It JUST feels right 🙂
