Electromechanical Left Ventricular Resynchronisation by Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
Revascularisation resynchronises left ventricular wall motion by restoring the normal activation response to stress, thereby reducing total isovolumic time and normalising peak cardiac output response to stress.
Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses in Cardiac Surgery: Rules of the Road – Part 2
The aim of the second part of this expert review is to provide guidance on how to appropriately perform trial level meta-analyses, with particular focus on the quality assessment of the included studies, the choice of the appropriate statistical approach, the methods to deal with heterogeneity (including subgroup, meta-regression, and sensitivity analyses), and the appraisal of publication bias.
Regional Lung Metabolic Profile in A Piglet Model of Cardiopulmonary Bypass with Circulatory Arrest
Our results demonstrate significant metabolic disturbances between dorsocaudal and ventral lung regions during supine mechanical ventilation with or without CPB/DHCA. CPB/DHCA also leads to metabolic differences and may have additive effects to the regional disturbances. Most pathways driving this pathology are involved in energy metabolism and the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, and reduction–oxidation pathways.
