Effect of Antithrombin in Fresh Frozen Plasma on Hemostasis After Cardiopulmonary Bypass Surgery
Fresh frozen plasma administration increased antithrombin activity and caused activated clotting time prolongation, but then increased clotting ability. Thus, testing by rotational thromboelastometry after cardiopulmonary bypass could be valuable in the detection of comprehensive clotting ability.
Conventional Versus Minimally Invasive Extracorporeal Circulation In Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery: Protocol For A Randomised Controlled Trial (COMICS)
The trial is feasible but criteria for progressing to a full trial were not met on time. The Trial Steering and Data Monitoring Committees have recommended that the trial should currently continue.
Continuous Cerebral and Myocardial Selective Perfusion in Neonatal Aortic Arch Surgery
CCMSP is a safe and reproducible strategy for cerebral, myocardial and visceral protection in neonatal aortic arch repair, with or without VSD closure, resulting in low complication and mortality.
Effects Of Pulmonary Perfusion During Cardiopulmonary Bypass On Lung Functions After Cardiac Operation
Pulmonary artery perfusion during aortic cross‐clamping provides better oxygenation and preservation of the wall alveolar integrity after coronary artery bypass grafting surgery.
Cardiovascular Manifestations and Treatment Considerations In COVID-19
COVID-19 contributes to cardiovascular complications, including acute myocardial injury as a result of acute coronary syndrome, myocarditis, stress-cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, cardiogenic shock, and cardiac arrest.
Is There a “Blind Spot” in Point-of-Care Testing for Residual Heparin After Cardiopulmonary Bypass? A Prospective, Observational Cohort Study
This difference suggests that an interference in the detection of residual heparinization with point-of-care methods exists right after the application of protamine, which seems to subside after a short time span.
Preoperative C-Reactive Protein as A Predictor of Postoperative Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Owing to variability in acute kidney injury definitions and C-reactive protein levels for different cohorts in the observational studies reviewed, it is unclear from current evidence what serum C-reactive protein cut-off level is significantly associated with postoperative acute kidney injury.
Patient Blood Management: The Best Approach to Transfusion Medicine Risk Management
In an effort to maximise patient safety, transfusion medicine practice culture needs to shift towards a patient blood management approach, with hospitals implementing it as an important tool to minimize the risks of allogeneic blood transfusion.
A Canadian Perspective on The Use and Preparation of Cryopreserved Red Cell Concentrates
This method produces units that meet all Canadian regulatory standards. Introduction of extended outdates has allowed CBS to decrease operational costs and improve cryopreserved RCC product quality.
Direct 3D Bioprinting of Cardiac Micro-Tissues Mimicking Native Myocardium
This novel instrumented 3D cardiac microtissue serves as a physiologically relevant in vitro model system with great potential for use in cardiac disease modeling and drug screening.
Unilateral Is Comparable to Bilateral Antegrade Cerebral Perfusion in Acute Type A Aortic Dissection Repair
In ATAAD, both uni-ACP and bi-ACP are equally effective to protect the brain with low postoperative stroke rates and mortality in hemiarch to zone 3 arch replacement. Uni-ACP is recommended for its simplicity and less manipulation of arch branch vessels.
Invited Expert Opinion: Guidelines for improving the use and presentation of P values
We provide a background regarding P values and guidance regarding the optimal use of P values for 3 specific common statistical study designs of manuscript submitted to the Journal.
