ECLS for Preemies: The Artificial Placenta
Current research has focused on low-volume pumpless arteriovenous circuits as well as pump-driven venovenous circuits.
Prolonged Venovenous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Without Anticoagulation: A Case of Goodpasture Syndrome-Related Pulmonary Haemorrhage
We present a 16-year-old male with severe acute respiratory and renal failure as a result of Goodpasture syndrome, requiring venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) for pulmonary haemorrhage. The patient received no systemic anticoagulation for 25 of 26 ECMO days (20 days consecutively) and suffered no coagulation-related adverse events.
The Practical Role of Echocardiography in Selection, Implantation, and Management of Patients Requiring LVAD Therapy
An integrated approach using basic echocardiography is critical to patient selection, implantation, and continued surveillance and success of patients with left ventricular assist devices.
Clinical Experience with Affinity Pixie™ Oxygenation System in Paediatric and Infant Patients
The Pixie™ oxygenator proved effective at flows up to 2.5 L/min
Cerebral Near-Infrared Spectroscopy in Perioperative Management of Left Ventricular Assist Device and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Patients
Neurologic injury remains a common complication in patients
Early Feasibility Testing and Engineering Development of the Transapical Approach for the HeartWare MVAD Ventricular Assist System
A new cannula configuration has been developed for transapical implantation, where the outflow cannula is positioned across the aortic valve
Influence of the Washing Program on the Blood Processing Performance of a Continuous Autotransfusion Device
The continuous auto transfusion system has been widely used in surgical operations. Although the continuous autotransfusion device provided consistent hematocrit quality, the levels of some blood lipid components showed significant differences among the washing programs.
Handling Ability of Gaseous Microemboli of Two Pediatric Arterial Filters in a Simulated CPB Model
The purpose of this experiment was to compare the Sorin KIDS D131 and the Terumo Capiox AF02 pediatric arterial filters in a simulated CPB procedure to determine which filter is the better for clinical use.
Regional Perfusion during Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Case Report and Educational Modules on the Concept of Dual Circulations
We present an adult V-A ECMO case report, which illustrates a unique encounter with the concept of "dual circulations."
Regional Variation in Arterial Saturation and Oxygen Delivery during Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
These results suggest that antegrade cannulation for VA-ECMO improves oxygen delivery to the proximal aorta distribution.
Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for the Management of Massive Amlodipine Overdose
Early institution of ECMO should be considered for the management of respiratory failure and refractory shock in the setting of calcium channel blocker overdose when medical therapies are insufficient.
Impact of an Open-Chest Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Model for in situ Simulated Team Training: A Pilot Study
To develop an affordable realistic open-chest extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) model for embedded in situ interprofessional crisis resource management training in emergency management of a post-cardiac surgery child.
