Hybrid Procedures Can Reduce the Risk of Congenital Cardiovascular Surgery
Minimally invasive operations and percutaneous interventions are well-accepted options in the treatment of congenital heart defects. However, percutaneous interventions may be associated with an increased risk due to limited vascular access or a very tortuous catheter course.
Fabrication of Pre-Determined Shape of Bone Segment With Collagen-Hydroxyapatite Scaffold and Autogenous Platelet-Rich Plasma
This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of using biohybrids of platelet-rich plasma and collagen-hydroxyapatite beads for fabricating of protrusive bone in a rabbit animal model.
In vitro Evaluation of Freeze-Dried Bone Allografts Combined With Platelet Rich Plasma and Human Bone Marrow Stromal Cells For Tissue Engineering
Freeze-dried bone allograft (FDBA) might be more effective in combination with platelet rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow stromal cells (BMSC) in accelerating bone healing.
Comparison of Blood Activation in the Wound, Active Vent, and Cardiopulmonary Bypass Circuit
Contact of blood with the pericardial cavity and surgical wound has been advocated as the main trigger, but suction forces are also considered as a possible contributor. We thus designed a study to identify the possible causes involved in this activation.
Current Clinical Outcomes of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
We undertook a prospective registry of coronary revascularization by CABG on-pump and off-pump, and PCI with or without DES, to determine clinical outcomes.
Impact of Pre-Existing Conditions, Age and the Length of Cardiopulmonary Bypass on Postoperative Outcome After Repair of the Ascending Aorta and Aortic Arch for Aortic Aneurysms and Dissections
Repair of the ascending aorta and aortic arch carries a high morbidity and mortality, which can be complicated by the often emergent nature of the intervention.
The Principals of Pumpless Extracorporeal Lung Assist
The recently introduced pumpless extracorporeal lung assist (PECLA) is a remarkable alternative to the conventional extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in case of severe lung failure.
Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Cardiopulmonary Failure in Pediatric Patients: Is a Second Course Justified?
We hypothesized that data from a national ECMO registry would be useful in identifying which pediatric patients would be optimal candidates for a second course of ECMO.
Impaired Sublingual Microvascular Perfusion During Surgery With Cardiopulmonary Bypass: A Pilot Study
Microcirculatory blood flow alterations have been associated with impaired outcome. We investigated whether these alterations occurred before, during, and after coronary artery bypass grafting.
Use of (All-Blood) Miniplegia Versus Crystalloid Cardioplegia in an Experimental Model of Acute Myocardial Ischemia
Several methods of myocardial protection have been used. The use of all-blood solutions modified with glutamate and aspartate has increased. Its use in situations of acute ischemia provides improved contractile function, "resuscitating" the previously lesioned muscle. The dilution preconized by literature is around 25% of the hematocrit. The present study evaluates an all-blood cardioplegia solution with tepid 1% dilution, denominated miniplegia.
Topical Application of Autologous Blood Products During Surgical Closure Following a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft
The current study was intended to assess the safety and efficacy of the application of autologous platelet rich and platelet poor plasma to the sternal closure and saphenous vein harvest site during closure following a coronary artery bypass graft.
Avecor Trillium Oxygenator Versus Noncoated Monolyth Oxygenator: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study
Two hundred patients who were scheduled to undergo valve repair and/or replacement surgery with or without coronary surgery were enrolled in the study. The patients were randomized to undergo CPB with either the Avecor oxygenator with Trillium™ (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN, USA), a biopassive surface, or the Monolyth (Sorin, Irvine, CA, USA) oxygenator without coating.
