Effects of the Breed, Sex and Age on Cellular Content and Growth Factor Release from Equine Pure-Platelet Rich Plasma and Pure-Platelet Rich Gel
The objectives of this study were: 1) to compare the cellular composition of P-PRP with whole blood and platelet poor plasma (PPP); 2) to compare the concentration of transforming GF beta 1 (TGF-β1) and platelet derived GF isoform BB (PDGF-BB) between P-PRP treated with non-ionic detergent (P-PRP+NID), P-PRG (activated with calcium gluconate -CG-), PPP+NID, PPP gel (PPG), and plasma and; 3) to evaluate and to correlate the effect of the breed, gender and age on the cellular and GF concentration for each blood component.
Equine Tendonitis Therapy Using Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Platelet Concentrates: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Tendon injury is a major cause of lameness and decreased performance in athletic equines. Various therapies for tendonitis have been described; however, none of these therapies results in complete tissue regeneration, and the injury recurrence rate is high even after long recovery periods involving rest and physiotherapy.
Ultrastructure and Growth Factor Content of Equine Platelet-Rich Fibrin Gels
This study compared fiber diameter, pore area, compressive stiffness, gelation properties, and selected growth factor content of platelet-rich fibrin gels (PRFGs) and conventional fibrin gels (FGs).
Platelet Gel for Treatment of Mucocutaneous Lesions Related to Graft-Versus-Host Disease after Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant
The aim of this study was to verify the efficacy and safety of PLT gel for treating graft-versus-host disease ulcers.
Vascular Quality of Care Pilot Study: How Admission to a Vascular Surgery Service Affects Evidence-Based Pharmacologic Risk Factor Modification in Patients with Lower Extremity Peripheral Arterial Disease
The authors conducted a retrospective chart review of 150 patients with PAD admitted to the vascular surgery service at a large Canadian tertiary care hospital.
Late Driveline Left Ventricular Assist Device Infection Treated with Frozen-and-Thawed Allogeneic Platelet Gel
In this case report, we report the application of frozen-and-thawed allogeneic platelet gel (PLT-gel) to treat a late driveline exit site infection in a 56-year old patient supported by a Heartware-HVAD left ventricular assist device.
Characterization and Comparison of 5 Platelet-Rich Plasma Preparations in a Single-Donor Model
The purpose of this study was to compare the biological characteristics of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) obtained from 4 medical devices and a preparation developed in our laboratory using a single-donor model.
A Single Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection for Chronic Midsubstance Achilles Tendinopathy: A Retrospective Preliminary Analysis
The purpose of this study was to evaluate a series of patients undergoing a single platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection for the treatment of chronic midsubstance Achilles tendinopathy, in whom conservative treatment had failed.
Preventing Deep Wound Infection after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Review
The consequences of deep wound infections before, during, and after coronary artery bypass grafting have prompted research to clarify risk factors and explore preventive measures to keep infection rates at an irreducible minimum.
Platelet and Growth Factor Concentrations in Activated Platelet-Rich Plasma: A Comparison of Seven Commercial Separation Systems
This study characterized the composition of PRP produced by seven commercially available separation systems (JP200, GLO PRP, Magellan Autologous Platelet Separator System, KYOCERA Medical PRP Kit, SELPHYL, MyCells, and Dr. Shin's System THROMBO KIT) to evaluate the platelet, white blood cell, red blood cell, and growth factor concentrations, as well as platelet-derived growth factor-AB (PDGF-AB), transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) concentrations.
The Effect of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) on Composite Graft Survival
As platelet-rich plasma (PRP) contains large numbers of growth factors and has been widely used for tissue regeneration, this study aimed to study PRP as an adjuvant to enhance composite graft survival.
Blood Conservation: What is Current Blood Draw Practice
The new AABB guidelines for red blood cell transfusions narrow the threshold for transfusion.
