1-2 November 2012 / Uluru Northern Territory

Uluru is one of Australia’s most recognizable natural landmarks. The sandstone formation stands 348 m (1,142 ft) high (rising 863 m/2,831 ft above sea level), with most of its bulk lying underground, and has a total circumference of 9.4 km (5.8 mi).[4]

Both Uluru and the nearby Kata Tjuta formation have great cultural significance for the Aṉangu people, the traditional inhabitants of the area, who lead walking tours to inform visitors about the local flora and fauna, bush foods and the Aboriginal dreamtime stories of the area.

The local Pitjantjatjara people call the landmark Uluṟu (Aboriginal pronunciation: [uluɻu]). This word has no further particular meaning in the Pitjantjatjara language, although it is used as a local family name by the senior Traditional Owners of Uluru.[1]

Fireside Chats

The Fireside Chat session is a unique forum to capture so much of the amazing work that is being done by perfusionists across Australasia.  This session is designed to give both an insight into contemporary perfusion practices as well as a forum for general discussion.

The session is a more informal and relaxed one with drinks and canapes provided.

The focus of this session is for open discussion based around brief presentations, questions and answers from the entire audience and discussion on topics of interest.

If you have:

  • A case presentation you feel is not quite right for the formal scientific program;
  • Some research which is in its infancy you would like to demonstrate;
  • Have implemented change within your department and would like to share your experience; or
  • Have had any unusual clinical scenarios or issues you would like to ask a broad group of peers for their suggestions

then, this is the forum for you!

The Scientific Committee has also compiled some talking points on current trends for discussion.

The success of this forum is dependent upon your participation, so please come prepared with your discussion points!
