Editor’s Note:

I’m doing some perfusion traveling as I am taking my show on the road.  As such, every once in awhile I will be dropping a few notes and pictures of places visited, and observations made.  In a sense, the beginning of a scrap book on Open Heart Surgery in America (and other places if possible).

Enjoy 🙂

“I’ve Got the Lung!”

So I have this perfusion buddy of mine- Brent.  He’s a Texas boy, hard working very direct, to a level of intensity eye-to-eye direct.  Have had the pleasure of working with him for a bit to lend a hand, and must say I have been impressed with the passion he not only shows for perfusion and his patients, but his endless reservoir of energy when it comes to taking on all things in life.

One of my favorite Brent moments?  When he initiates cardiopulmonary bypass- and ropes the patient away from anesthesia (yes the “cowboy” metaphor) and calls to the room- “I’ve Got the Lung!”

I must say I have never heard it expressed as such- but it did have a certain flair and expressed a sense of confidant ownership to the rest of the room.  That’s the kind of passion and joy that brings a team together and leads to great outcomes.

Good luck in all things Brent- as surely you will make that happen 🙂  It is pleasure to have visited and helped out.
