  • Dr. Redmond, do you have to have perfect vision to be a heart surgeon such as yourself? Just curious, because it seems like you have absolutely no room for error. And thanks for the videos, this is incredible.

Great question. Good vision is important, and we all used magnification glasses to improve our ability to see small structures. I have friends with bad vision who had a hard time doing heart surgery, and had to quit, but I don’t think you have to have “perfect” vision. On a deeper level, you have to have a clear vision of how to care for people, and there is no room for error, but we are human, and make mistakes, and our responsibility is to be honest, recognize and learn from them.

  • i have to say good job you did a great job and the baby looks like its getting better
  • Keep these videos coming Dr. Burke ! 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m trying to keep up.

Aloha,

Redmond Burke MD

  • I do agree with the previous comment as to your undeniable fantastic surgical skills. May I ask though, if the surgery you practiced will help in reducing the enlarged heart muscles and if so would this alter the muscles contractions as such due to the loss of muscle mass?
  • Great video, its awesome the way you explain a tough heart surgery, but most important, make people understand it. Again, really inspiring for all of us med students around the world. Keep up with the good work Dr. Burke.
  • Greetings from Ecuador.

Thank you for the great note. I wish we had YouTube when I was in medical school. I’m glad our work helps and inspires you, you are the future of our profession. It looks like we will be in good hands.

Sincerely,

Redmond Burke MD
