Where did you train?

Could you tell us a bit about each of your assignments- India, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and  Australia.

How you came to go to these places, the surgeon / perfusion relationships at these different cultures, and how you are perceived professionally at these places (technical vs professional, etc.) ?

Hi,

Thanks for your mail, sorry for the delay.

I am a Science Graduate, Post Graduate Diploma in Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine in 1996, working in Vijaya Heart foundation, Chennai India. In 2001 I have completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Perfusion Technology.

The Vijaya Heart Foundation is a private multi-specialty hospital in Chennai, India. We are doing about 800 cases in a year. Mainly adult cases, Coronaries, On pump as well as Off pump, Endoventricular patch plasty’s (Left Ventricular Restoration) and minimal invasive surgeries, mitral valve repairs and valve replacements. Ours is one of the leading surgical units in Left Ventricular(LV) Restoration procedures for impaired LV function.

Perfusion techniques, Warm heart surgery, Membrane oxygenator with arterial filter, Prime volume around 1000ml includes 500ml Colloid (6%Hesterile), 100ml Mannitol and 25ml Bicarb. Cardioplegia Blood with K+ using syringe pump infusion (modified Calafiore  tepid blood cardioplegia) and controlled aortic root reperfusion before releasing cross clamp till the heart beats.

I got opportunity in Saudi Arabia through our surgeon in 2004. Almana General Hospital is largest private multi specialty health care provider in Al-Khobar (eastern province), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Indian team has cardiac surgery in this unit. I was given the opportunity to establish the perfusion department, selecting the equipments, ordering the disposable materials, preparing the perfusion procedures and protocols etc. Independently conducting cardiopulmonary bypass for all type of adult cases. I was only Perfusionsit, working atmosphere similar to India.

In 2006, I got job in Al Noor Hospital, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is largest private JCIA accredited multi specialty health care provider, we are doing about 200 cases in a year with 2 surgeons, pediatric and adult cases. Her also I was the only Perfusionsit, working atmosphere a bit different, both are Arab surgeons, initial stages a bit stressed later no problem.

Perfusion techniques, more or less same, both surgeons has different protocols, Membrane oxygenator with arterial filter, Prime volume around 900ml. Blood Cardioplegia 4:1 using Myotherm, Host shot etc.

In Aug 2010 I got opportunity in Australia through my friend. I am working for Perfusion Services Pvt. Ltd. Melbourne. I hope you know about this center. Professionally I feel a better place than Middle east and India, we are individual, very healthy and friendly environment.

If you required any more details please mail me.
