Audition for Your Job Every Day
On the last day of fellowship my mentor, Dr. Michael O’Connor, sat the fellows down and in 6 statements summarized what we each needed to know going into practice. This wasn’t a quick summary of acute kidney injury or how to diagnose and treat the different forms of shock, but instead short statements by which we should base our practice every day. This is what he said: (1) say yes to everything, (2) be punctual, (3) leave tracks, (4) buy the least expensive house in the best neighborhood, (5) be willing to do what you ask someone else to do, (6) audition for your job every day.
