Inova (Va.): Opens $152 million Heart and Vascular Institute
Inova Health System this week is opening the $152.2 million Heart and Vascular Institute at Inova Fairfax Hospital, the region’s first facility dedicated exclusively to cardiovascular disease, the Washington Post reports. The center brings practices in preventive medicine, rehabilitative care, and disease management under one roof and features 156 patient rooms, 48 intensive care beds, an 11-room suite for cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology, and dedicated areas for pediatric patients. In addition to providing “patient-directed” care, one cardiac surgeon notes that the center will focus on “research, wellness, and prevention of the disease.” The Post notes that the facility features the most cutting-edge technology and incorporates “the healing environment into the actual physical plan” through an emphasis on curved lines, natural lighting and materials, and a central garden. Hospital officials say they expect the center to attract cardiovascular patients from throughout the region, especially from Inova’s Alexandria and Mount Vernon facilites (Irvin, 10/7).
