Perfusion Community Sustains Great Loss in the Death of Viktor Magnusson
The perfusion community has sustained a great loss. Viktor Magnusson, Chief Perfusionist in Reykjavik, Iceland, died Wednesday August, 30th . Viktor’s background was in the biomedical engineering field. He received his perfusion training in Uppsala, Sweden. In 1986 he moved to Iceland to help start the first and only open heart surgery program in Iceland at the National University Hospital in Reykjavik. He is a former president of ScanSECT. He organized two outstanding SCANSECT meetings in Iceland in 1990 and 1996. He was looking forward to hosting another meeting in the future. Most recently delivered the Charles C. Reed memorial lecture (just published in vol 21 of the AACP Proceedings) at The American Academy Meeting in Ft. Lauderdale in January. His passing is a loss in Scandinavia and to the entire international perfusion committee. Viktor was a fine individual and extremely dedicated perfusionist. Many who knew or heard of Viktor will mourn his untimely passing.
