The CVI’s Cardiovascular Perfusion program produces competent entry-level Perfusionists through an interactive and engaging 12-month course of study proctored by physicians, perfusionists, and healthcare professionals who are passionate about educating future generations of perfusionists. This program provides students with a dual-sided approach to a Perfusion Technology Education, with a focus on didactic study and clinical apprenticeship. It prepares competent entry-level perfusionists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains in the underserved areas of North Texas. This program provides exceptional Perfusion Technology Education at an affordable price.

The Texas Heart Institute (THI) School of Perfusion Technology offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in perfusion technology. The 18-month course trains students to use the cardiopulmonary bypass machine and other equipment associated with open-heart surgery. In addition, students receive extensive experience in the operating room. The Commission accredits the Texas Heart Institute School of Perfusion on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Committee for Perfusion Education (ACPE), and graduates are eligible to become a Certified Clinical Perfusionist after they take the national certification examination, which the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion gives.

It is the vision of The University of Texas McGovern Medical School at Houston to create a unique training environment and educational program in the field of cardiovascular perfusion that will provide the breadth and depth of training that can be found only in the Texas Medical Center through our affiliation with Memorial Hermann’s Center for Advanced Heart Failure. The mission of The UTHealth McGovern Medical School Cardiovascular Perfusion Training Program is to provide the highest quality of education and training in cardiovascular perfusion through an accredited post-baccalaureate certificate program that meets state licensing and national accrediting agency requirements. The UTHealth McGovern Medical School Cardiovascular Perfusion Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Committee for Perfusion Education (AC-PE). The program received its initial accreditation on November 20th, 2015. This is the newest perfusion education program in the country.
