This is the role for you!  As assigned, a perfusionist performs, under the supervision of a licensed physician and according to prescribed procedures, those functions necessary for the support and treatment of the cardiopulmonary system of a patient. The work area is primarily the operating room but the possibility exists for working throughout the hospital.

Responsibilities:

Maintain proficiency with accessory equipment and procedures.
Perform duties and responsibilities according to the philosophy and standards of UPMC including conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude in work situations with patients, peers, medical staff, and visitors.
Administer medications, blood components, and anesthetic agents under the supervision by the attending physicians.

Job Summary:
Sets up and operates heart-lung machine, physiological monitoring instrumentation and related ancillary equipment in cardiac surgical procedures.

Essential Responsibilities:
Reviews patients medical history and chart, and consults with surgeon or physician to obtain patient information needed to set up heart-lung machine and associated equipment. Selects, assembles, sets up, and tests heart-lung machine to ensure that machine and associated equipment function according to specifications.

Operates heart-lung machine to regulate blood circulation and composition, to administer drugs and anesthetic agents, and to control body temperature during surgery or respiratory failure of patient.

Monitors and observes operation of heart-lung machine and patients physiologic variables such as blood temperature, blood composition, and flow rate, and adjusts equipment to maintain normal body functions. Cleans and adjusts parts of heart-lung machine.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

Provides clinical and product education to Healthcare Professionals on the full portfolio of LivaNova Cardiopulmonary products. Training sessions may be conducted in person or virtually and must align with all approved instructions for use.  These sessions include coordinating hospital clinical and non-clinical demonstrations, in-person and virtual education programs, intra-operative case coverage, supporting product evaluations and ad hoc training when needed.  The clinical specialist must both work independently within their role but remain highly collaborative with their team and company stakeholders (sales).  Therefore, the individual must be able to work independently, work as collaborator and manage internal stakeholders, as well as manage their own time effectively.

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES

Provides clinicians and medical staff clear clinical instructions to ensure continuity of education and support related to all aspects of patient outcomes, in accordance with the product’s Instructions for Use (IFU)
Coordinates, directs, and delivers clinical training programs on LivaNova products, as necessary and appropriate.
Develops and maintains product knowledge excellence of the LivaNova CP portfolio of products.
