Summary:

Maintains and operates cardiopulmonary pump, Cell Saver, autotransfuser and intra-aortic balloon pump during invasive cardiovascular procedures. Provides assistance to the physicians and staff as needed. This job description is not intended to be all inclusive. Responsibilities:

A Perfusionist is responsible for the delivery of patient care as needed during a surgical procedure.

Operate life support equipment for the patient undergoing open-heart surgery, specifically the cardiopulmonary bypass machine (“pump”).
Set up and operate left and/or right heart bypass pumps.
Operate extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and/or operation of total or partial artificial heart console systems.
Set up and operate Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping system.
Demonstrate full knowledge of the heparin, protamine, anticoagulation-titration analysis systems.
Ability to serve in an advisory capacity to the surgeon responsible for ordering the administration of cardiac drugs.
Set up and operate Auto transfusion (blood cell saver) equipment when required to support cardiovascular, orthopedic, vascular and other surgical procedures in which the auto transfusion system is required.
Demonstrate understanding of and proficiency in patient management responsibilities including: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Cardiology, Surgical Techniques, Physiologic Monitoring, and Patient Care.
Review basic histology and anatomy required to gain the best understanding of the patient’s disease process.
Assist in setting up and inserting the IABP in a variety of settings as required; OR, Cardiac Cath Lab, ICU or other areas.
Ensure ordering off supplies and organizational activity needs.
Ensure heart-lung machines are cleaned and in good working order per manufacturer’s recommendations.
Assist in providing required data for Quality and Infection Control as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE:

The NRP Organ Procurement Perfusionist operates devices utilized during cardiopulmonary bypass for circulatory support, specifically during the organ retrieval process. Perfusionist will provide case support within geographic regions and beyond.

·         Provides safe and effective management of extracorporeal support during organ retrieval.

·         Ability to operate, use, and interpret data from a wide variety of equipment to perform perfusion care and organ management.

·         Maintains thorough perfusion records before, during and after pump run, recording pump data, laboratory values and activated clotting times. Monitors and records necessary vital signs such as blood flow rates, blood volume, gas flow rates, oxygenation, and temperature during bypass. Completes safety checklists and record other data forms when relevant.

·         Disassembles equipment, inspects, cleans, and reassembles equipment and ensures that it is properly stored. Prepares appropriate equipment for sterilization.

·         Prepares appropriate equipment for each case using accepted sterile technique.

·         Assembles solutions and drugs to be used during bypass.

The primary function of the Staff Perfusionist is the safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment (heart/lung machine, veno-venous bypass, ventricular assist devices, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) during any medical or surgical procedure where it is necessary to support or replace the patient’s cardiopulmonary/circulatory function (open-heart surgery, liver transplantation, etc.). In addition, the Staff Perfusionist is responsible for the set-up, delivery, management, maintenance, and operation of other relevant ancillary services, devices, and equipment (i.e intra-aortic balloon pumps, autologous blood recovery systems, ventricular assist devices (VAD), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), point of care (POC) laboratory testing equipment).

This position requires providing service for adults (18 – 64 years), older adults (65 years and older), and the frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served

There is call (after hours, weekends) required. A holiday call is also required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be graduates of an accredited Perfusion School unless they began their perfusion career prior to April 15, 1981. If they started their perfusion career before April 15, 1981, they must have 2 years of college (60 credits) with an emphasis in science.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare field preferred. New graduates, as well as experienced perfusionists, will be considered for employment.
  • Staff Perfusionists are required to be licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and renewed on a biannual basis.
  • Staff Perfusionists are required to be Certified (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.  Or Certification Eligible by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ACP).  This certification must be renewed annually.

We are seeking a highly-motivated CHIEF candidate with a positive attitude who must be Board Certified (ABCP) with at least 3 years of experience as a practicing Clinical Perfusionist for an established heart program in Stuart, Florida!

Carilion Clinic, located in Roanoke, VA, has an opportunity for a Perfusionist to join our Amsect Pillar Award winning team. As one of six perfusionist, you will receive competitive compensation and equal call sharing. The applicant must have a great attitude, possess good communication skills, and be a strong team player. Responsibilities include set-up and operation of the heart lung machine, cell saver, and related equipment during surgery. We see a wide variety of cases including dissections, valves, TAVRs, HIPECs and more. We are a level one trauma center but do not perform transplants. Requirements:

·         Must be a graduate of an accredited cardiac perfusion program and must be American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion certified or board eligible.

·         Board eligible candidates must seek certification as soon as possible.

·         Experienced perfusionists and new graduates are encouraged to apply.

·         Abilities to handle the physical demands of the job.

Florida East Coast Local/Travel HYBRID Perfusionist!

Please note that this is a full-time local-based, travel-based role, fulfilling open perfusionist positions mainly between two hospitals on the Atlantic coast of Florida. This HYBRID travel position will be mostly local with likely over 80% of the travel responsibilities from your own home at night.

Highly motivated candidates with a positive attitude should be board certified with at least 1 year of current clinical experience. Someone interested in a fantastic work/life balance with ample days off MUST consider a position like this! The primary location for this position will be in the Vero Beach, Florida or surrounding area.

Candidates should also possess the following:

Flexible schedule and availability to travel up to 30% of the year throughout the Florida East Coast.
Current ECMO and cardiac cases experience preferred but not absolute
Ability to adapt in highly varied clinical environments is crucial
Traveling experience is preferred but not an absolute

Estimated Compensation Range

$170,000-$180,000+ per year based on skills, experience and possible bonus opportunities

Comprehensive Care Services, Inc. is looking for a full time Staff Perfusionist, preferably with 3-5 years of experience but new grads are also welcome to apply. This position is located at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida. Candidates must be willing to work flexible schedules and demonstrate the well-developed interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, health care team members, patients and families.

Must have Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, or eligible to become certified after one year of employment. Relocation reimbursement may be available to the qualified candidate. Proper receipts will be needed for reimbursement.
