Lynchburg General Hospital, a member of Centra Health in central Virginia, has an immediate opening for a self motivated Perfusionist to join two professionals. We have consistently performed 400 plus adult procedures per year for over ten years. This Perfusionist – Cardiovascular Surgery will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and controlling extracorporeal perfusion equipment during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery and related procedures on patients of all ages, while under the direction of a physician and in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of practice.
  • Selecting, assembling and preparing equipment and supplies for assigned cases.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment.
  • Monitoring and evaluating physiologic data and making adjustments in perfusion parameters as needed.
  • Administering prescription drugs, blood products and anesthetic agents through the extracorporeal circuit and inducing specified physiologic conditions, such as hypothermia and circulatory arrest, as ordered by a physician.
  • Assisting with inventory management.
  • Assisting with assigned projects in a collaborative cardiovascular team.

 

To qualify, you must have:

  • Graduated from an accredited Perfusion Training Program, with a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Current certification as a Clinical Perfusionist by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Perfusionist licensure through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in‑depth, experienced‑based knowledge.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.

Progressive Perfusion provides contract services for a local hospital with a thriving heart program. We are an all adult practice mainly consisting of CABG’s, Valves, very few DHCA cases, and occasional off pump cases. We work with an extremely fast cardiac surgeon and a hardworking and efficient OR staff that consistently produce excellent patient outcomes. We also employ 3 autotransfusionists that operate the cell saver cases in the heart room and in general surgery. They also perform inventory control, lab quality controls, point of care tests as needed, and other duties to assist the perfusionists.

The Operating Room Perfusionist assists in perfusions associated with surgical treatment at NYP and performs total circulatory, regional, and organ perfusions. In this role, you will provide extracorporeal circulation/cardiopulmonary support to patients until they’re able to maintain their own circulatory support. Be an ambitious team member, working alongside operating room professionals who are committed to correcting patients conditions as quickly and effectively as possible. Inject medications using a heart-lung machine. Perform ancillary duties, such as cell saving, ECMO, VAD, plasma saving and IABP.

 

This is a Days position working primarily 7:00am – 3:00pm, with overnight on-call responsibilities for emergency coverage.

The Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences in the College of Health Sciences is seeking an outstanding individual with cardiovascular perfusion clinical expertise for the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will serve as a vital faculty member on a team of dedicated staff to supply the best educational experience possible with a focus on simulation and research in the Cardiovascular Perfusion Program. Qualifications for the position include a BS Degree in Cardiovascular Perfusion (MS in Perfusion Preferred), and evidence of teaching, simulation and research potential. The Director of ECMO, having been appropriately trained to manage extracorporeal systems and under the direction of a prescribing physician, will perform direct patient care through the implementation, operation and management of the ECMO system. Children’s Hospital of Michigan is seeking an experienced, certified pediatric perfusionist to providing perfusion services for a dynamic pediatric cardiac surgical program that has been in existence for 45 years.  Cases include the full range of neonatal and infant cardiac surgical repairs as well as adult congenital cases, ECMO, ventricular assist devices and cardiac transplantation.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, organized and dynamic team player, preferably with experience in perfusion for congenital cardiac surgery.  Experience in pediatric ECMO and pediatric ventricular assist devices is desirable.  Non-clinical duties include various administrative tasks as assigned by the Chief of Pediatric Perfusion and the Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery.

As a 228-bed, free-standing pediatric CHM has continued to pioneer advances in medical care for children for the last 125 years, evaluating 153,000 outpatients and 94,000 emergency patients per year and performing 14,000 annual surgeries.  CHM has recently completed construction of an integrated pediatric cardiology / cardiac surgical outpatient center and a new patient tower that houses a dedicated pediatric cardiac surgical operating room and a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, as well as new Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. Also, recently completed are a new pediatric imaging center and an expansive atrium/lobby entrance.

The CHM Pediatric Cardiac Surgical Department is a cohesive and close-knit group consisting of two pediatric cardiac surgeons, 5 advance practice providers, three nurse clinicians, two cardiac transplant coordinators, one data coordinator and two administrative assistants.  There are also three full-time, certified pediatric perfusionists, a team of dedicated pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists, and a team of pediatric cardiac circulating nurses and scrub techs.  The successful applicant will pump only pediatric / congenital cases at one hospital and will also become an integral member of a program with excellent patient outcomes, quality surgeons, and a stimulating work environment.

Job Description

Under the direction of the cardiothoracic surgeon or anesthesiologist, sets up and operates the heart-lung machine, physiologic instrumentation and related ancillary equipment to provide cardiac support for patients undergoing open-heart or other thoracic surgical procedures where it is necessary to support or temporarily replace the patient’s circulatory or respiratory function. Maintains all equipment and supplies utilized in Perfusion services.

Qualifications:

1. Graduate of accredited School of Perfusion Technology.
