Come join the Comprehensive Care Services, Inc. team! We are looking for an experienced Director of Perfusion with at least 3-5 years’ experience and supervisory/leadership skills. Has twenty-four (24) hour responsibility for the Perfusion Department. Ensures that the Perfusion Department meets quality standards within the resources available. Ensures that the Perfusion Department responds to Open Heart Surgery, Autotransfusion, Pump Standby and IABP according to protocols and Hospital agreement. Performs procedures relative to the physiological management of patients’ circulatory and respiratory functioning during and following cardiac surgery, under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist and operating surgeon.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Prepares and operates the heart-lung machine during open heart surgery, including the determination and calculation of bypass requirements for each patient.
2. Monitors equipment closely during surgery for any change in patient’s condition and informs physician(s) immediately of change.
3. Assesses patient for metabolic and respiratory abnormalities during cardiopulmonary bypass and initiates treatment.
4. Provides and/or directs the provision of autotransfusion services, blood gas analysis, activated clotting times, heparin assay analysis, dialysis and mechanical circulatory support.
5. Coordinates skills of various departments involved in providing comprehensive care of the cardiac surgical patient during perfusion, including blood bank and patient chemistry.
6. Operates and/or directs the operation of the intra-aortic balloon pump during and after insertion.
7. Correlates and records data obtained during the surgical procedures; including participation in the maintenance of departmental records, reports and charts.
8. Provides autotransfusion services during non-open heart procedures at the request of the attending physician.
9. Provides perfusion back-up services in the course of Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) as requested by the physician.
10. Responsible for managing the call schedule, holiday rotation granting of vacations and meeting requests for the department.
11. Responsible for all disposable orders ensuring the accuracy and keep inventory levels at a one-week supply. Billings should be faxed to the corporate office on the 15th and 30th of each month. Packing slips are sent to the corporate office with inventory/order sheets. Cross check billings with the corporate office within two working days.
12. Responsible to provide field appraisals on staff perfusionists and perfusion assistants. Appraisals are forwarded to corporate office for review. Is responsible for keeping records on staff regarding performance and have any occurrence reports on file. Will be actively involved in hiring and firing of staff.
13. Ensure that the physicians are satisfied with the quality and timeliness of services. Is responsible to react to all physician and/or Hospital complaints logged against the perfusion department.
14. Responsible to update quality assurance database at the completion of each procedure. Quarterly and Annual reports should be generated for surgeons, anesthesiologists, Hospital administration and President.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Graduate of accredited perfusion program. Evidence of commitment to continued education and self-development. Orientation to duties to be accomplished within six months. Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, health care team members, patient and families. Skilled Perfusionist with a minimum of 3-5 yrs. experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusionists.
