The ideal candidate for the position of Chief, Perfusion Services; Duke University Health System (DUHS) will be a clinical expert in perfusion and extracorporeal technology. Successful candidates will be required to lead with positivity, communicate effectively, support mutual respect and the well-being of staff, and be committed to personal and professional development of themselves, the Perfusion Team, and the Duke Heart team.
 

Our team provides comprehensive perfusion services for neonates through adults, including major aortic surgery, chemotherapy, ex vivo heart and lung perfusion, approximately 250 congenital cardiac surgery cases, over 100 lung and 75 heart transplants, 150 VAD implants and more than 200 ECMO cases per year with over 100 VAD/ECMO inter-hospital transports. The Chief will be responsible for the overall vision and strategy of Perfusion Services for the Health System. Additionally, the Chief will collaborate with Duke Heart leadership in areas of operations, programmatic development, and the maintenance and application of perfusion technology to enhance quality, outcomes and research. The Chief has supervisory responsibility for three Associate Chief Perfusionists (Adult Clinical Manager, Pediatric Clinical Manager, ECLS Manager) the team’s Quality and Safety Officer and our affiliate program’s perfusion leadership. The Associate Chiefs are responsible for the day-to-day operations, supervision and coordination of perfusion services by supporting the Chief of Perfusion with the management of patient care, staffing, personnel and fiscal activities. The Chief is supported by an Administrative Assistant and will report directly to the Associate Vice President for Heart Operations for DUHS.
 

The ideal candidate will possess a M.S. degree and completed training from an accredited perfusion program. Candidates with a B.S. degree will be considered if they also have significant Chief or perfusion leadership experience at a like organization. Candidates must also be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion with a minimum of five years as a practicing perfusionist. Progressive leadership experience in a similar organization is preferred. State Licensure is required for all practicing North Carolina Perfusionists.

Position Objective:

Chief Perfusionist is responsible for the clinical and administrative oversite of the perfusion department at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Monitor physiological responses to cardiopulmonary bypass by monitoring flows and pressures (such as venous return); collecting and analyzing blood samples; and monitoring laboratory results.
  • Work collaboratively with Biomedical Engineering to ensure all perfusion related equipment meets current standards for maintenance.
  • Assist medical staff with equipment evaluations related to cardiovascular perfusion as directed by providing feedback and input.
  • Participate in perfusion science research projects by reviewing literature and modifying current equipment and procedures and/or developing and testing new equipment and procedures under the direction of the Cardiac Surgeons and/or Anesthetists.

  • Graduation from an accredited cardiovascular perfusion program
  • Three (3) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current experience with Sorin S5 Heart Lung Machine and Berlin heart, Rotoflow, Centrimag, and Heartware blood pumps an asset.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of pediatric perfusion experience preferred.

Comprehensive Care Services, Inc. is looking for an experienced ECMO Coordinator with at least 3-5 years experience.

The selected candidate has an twenty-four (24) hour responsibility for the ECLS/ECMO Department.  Ensures that the ECLS/ECMO Department meets quality standards within the resources available.  Ensures that the ECLS Department responds to ECMO, according to protocols and Hospital agreement.  Performs procedures relative to the physiological management of patients’ circulatory and respiratory functioning during ECMO, under the direct supervision of the ECMO Medical Director and/or operating surgeon.

Must be willing to work flexible schedules. Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, health care team members, patient and families.

Must have current Respiratory Therapist license with critical care and ECMO experience. Must show evidence of commitment to continued education and self-development.

Comprehensive Care Services is looking for a 9th full time staff perfusionist to join their growing program at Integris Health Systems in Oklahoma City. Experience perfusionists and new graduates are encouraged to apply. The account consists of 2 hospitals with 5 surgeons doing about 700 hearts and 300 ECMOs a year. These include CABG, Valves, TAVRs, Aortic Procedures, Heart & Lung Transplants, LVADs and ECMOs. Integris is a strong ECMO center where perfusion assists ECMO Coordinators and ECMO nurse specialist. There is no bed side ECMO sitting. The surgeons are amazing and very efficient. The cardiac teams are wonderful to work with and OKC offers a great work/life balance. The candidate must be willing to work flexible hours, demonstrate well-developed interpersonal communication skills. Must have Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and must be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or eligible to become certified within one year of hire.
