Position Objective:

Chief Perfusionist is responsible for the clinical and administrative oversite of the perfusion department at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Essential Job Duties:

*Maintains competency assessment for self and staff, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all credentialing requirements and associated documentation.
*Coordinates staff development and maintains department policies and protocols, utilizing PI data.

*Operates Cardiopulmonary bypass machine and other extracorporeal equipment as necessary to support cardiac and non-   cardiac patients.
*Completes performance evaluation on all perfusion staff.
*Possess the decision making skills necessary to determine adequacy of bypass and effectiveness of other extracorporeal equipment operated by the Perfusion Department.
*Possesses the interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with other health care professionals in order to exchange and relay information.
*Monitors departmental perfusion supply usage and waste, maintains appropriate supply inventory. Initiates cost saving strategies.
*Exhibits communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses to assessment, treatment, and interactions with others.
*Maintains perfusion quality control data and reports monthly to CV Leadership.
*Ensures the perfusion department operates within all regulatory guidelines and supports research initiatives.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Graduation from a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs) Perfusion program
B.S. degree in related healthcare field/ Master degree preferred
3-5 years of experience in perfusion leadership

Required License/Certifications:

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) or ABCP eligibility.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:  Licensure as “Perfusion Advanced” (currently a CCP) by the Maryland Board of Physicians
Licensure/Certification/Registration:  “Perfusion Basic” (not a CCP) – Graduate of a CAAHEP Perfusion program but have not completed the requirements to take the ABCP exam.  Tenure contingent on obtaining licensure as Perfusion Advanced within 2 years of Perfusion Basic title
CPR certification (must have American Heart Association – Health Care Provider)

The MGH Perfusion service provides diverse support across several clinical programs including:

Intricate involvement with the implementation and hospital-wide support of short term and durable mechanical assist devices supporting a robust cardiac transplantation program.
Pre-operative and intra-operative circulatory support for heart, lung and liver transplant including an ex-vivo transport system operated by the MGH Perfusion service.
Collaboration with the MGH ECMO team throughout the institution and primary responsibility for ECMO management in the operating room setting.
Clinical education rotation site for three perfusion programs. Educating students is an important facet of our mission and integrated into our everyday workflow.
Four levels of on call duties split evenly over the team and are typically limited to one call shift per week plus one weekend per month.

What you’ll do

The Congenital Heart program within Banner Health is a rapidly growing heart center based out of Cardon Children’s medical Center.  The Congenital Heart program is currently on track to become a leading heart center that offers the ability to care for patients from fetal diagnosis throughout the lifespan.

A neonatal perfusionist is key to successfully growing a pediatric congenital heart program. As a Neonatal Perfusionist, you will work with our team of surgeons and cardiologist to provide perfusion support during open heart surgeries and during Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited perfusion program. Must be board certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Experience must include working with Stat V neonatal procedures and with Neonatal and Pediatric Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).

Preferred Qualifications
Pediatric Fellow of the American Society of Extra Corporeal Technology (AMSECT).
