Qualifications Include:

·         A graduate of an approved perfusion technology training program by date of  hire

·         A high school diploma or GED

·         The ability to be American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Certified within three years of date of hire

·         BLS certification

·         Knowledge of  anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, chemistry, physics, and sterile techniques

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Perfusion

  • Designs and assembles extracorporeal circuits and equipment and maintains patient parameters within guidelines and as ordered by physician for cardiopulmonary bypass, left heart bypass, ventricular assist, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation, veno-venous bypass for liver transplantation, HIPEC, and autologous blood recovery equipment. Administers medications, anesthetic agents, and blood products under the orders and supervision of a physician. Performs chemistry, blood gas, co-oximetry, and activated clotting time tests in the operating room for patients undergoing surgery.

Equipment

  • Operates, maintains, calibrates, and performs quality control testing on all of the operating room point of care laboratory equipment. Maintain and monitor cryogenic storage unit for human tissue grafts.

Department Coverage

  • Functions in capacity as “Assisting Perfusionist” to primary Perfusionist; duties to include obtaining additional disposable supplies or medicines, charting, performing laboratory tests, troubleshooting equipment failures or malfunctions, relieving primary Perfusionist during lengthy procedures. Provides perfusion call coverage for Cardiothoracic Surgery and Liver Transplantation programs. Provides perfusion support in cardiothoracic surgery research laboratory; participates in various aspects of lab research including protocol generation, CPB, instrument calibration, performing blood gas tests, and tissue sample collection.

Record Keeping and Compliance

  • Responsible for accurate and timely perfusion case data entry into perfusion database.  Maintains accurate documentation of perfusion cases and departmental functions for efficient department operation.

Education/Work Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in an allied health field or equivalent with a strong science background, and advanced training in circulation technology form a CAHEP accredited perfusion training program.
  • Must be certified or eligible to sit for the certification exam and actively pursuing certification, by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.  Must attain certification within the first 18 months of employment.  ABCP certification must be maintained during the term of employment.

An opportunity to join a team of 5 Perfusionist serving 3 hospitals and 4 surgeons in Reno-Carson, NV. Adult only, no ECMO. Varied case load of CABGs, valves and Aortas. Reno Nevada is located on the edge of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, only 25 minutes from the beach at Lake Tahoe. Access to trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding in the Tahoe Nation Forest are less than 10 minutes from downtown. Northern Nevada has vast amounts of public land for dirt biking, ATVs, side-by-sides, 4-wheeling and Camping. In the winter the mountains shield Reno from the snow and provide 1 ski resort 20 minutes from down town and another 3 large resorts within an hours drive.

Candidates should also possess the following:

  1. Ability to adapt to a challenging clinical environment.
  2. Must possess good communication and troubleshooting skills.
  3. Must be able to practice evidence based medicine; also to advise and participate in clinical decisions with a team approach.

The College of Health Sciences at Midwestern University invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Professor in the Cardiovascular Science Program, Glendale, AZ campus.  The candidate must have a master’s degree and document academic experience with a record of teaching along with a minimum of 5 years clinical practice.  Salary and benefits are competitive for this tenure-track position.   Responsibilities include teaching in the practical laboratory, didactic courses, and participation in scholarship and service. The Cardiovascular Science Perfusion Program matriculates 40 students each year and awards the Master of Science in Cardiovascular Science degree after successful completion of the 21-month curriculum.  The curriculum includes three quarters of didactic and laboratory education, including a state-of-the-art simulation laboratory, followed by four quarters of clinical education practicums off campus at various affiliated hospitals located throughout the country.  The Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and has seven faculty members and three support staff members.
