Norton Children’s Hospital, Louisville, KY is seeking a full time Pediatric Perfusionist to join a collaborative team of three.  We perform approximately 150 open-heart procedures per year from neonates to ACHD, including heart transplants and ventricular assist device support.  Perfusion plays a supporting role in Mechanical Support (No ECMO initiation/bedside).  We provide clinical instruction for various perfusion schools, in addition to ongoing quality improvement projects. We offer exposure to a broad range of pediatric cardiac procedures within a rapidly growing and evolving program.

Major Campus Expansion in the Future: Norton Children’s is planning to build a groundbreaking pediatric care campus on over 150 acres marking a bold expansion of its footprint. Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Chief Perfusionist and Attending Cardiac Surgeon, the Perfusionist provides cardiopulmonary support for surgical and medical procedures requiring extracorporeal circulation.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) procedures following established protocols, care plans, and surgeon preferences.

Summary:

The Perfusionist is responsible for operating and managing cardiopulmonary pumps, Cell Saver and autotransfusion equipment, and intra-aortic balloon pumps during invasive cardiovascular procedures. This role provides critical support to surgeons and clinical teams. Additional related duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities:

Provide patient care support during surgical procedures requiring perfusion services.
Operate cardiopulmonary bypass equipment during open-heart surgery.
Set up and operate left and right heart bypass systems.
Operate extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) devices and total or partial artificial heart console systems.
Set up and manage intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) systems in the OR, cardiac catheterization lab, ICU, or other clinical areas.
Demonstrate proficiency in heparin and protamine management, including anticoagulation titration and analysis systems.
Serve as an advisor to the surgical team regarding the administration of cardiac medications when applicable.
Operate autotransfusion (cell saver) equipment for cardiovascular, orthopedic, vascular, and other procedures requiring blood conservation.
Apply strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, cardiology, surgical techniques, physiologic monitoring, and patient care.
Review relevant anatomy and histology to support clinical decision-making related to disease processes.
Assist with IABP insertion and setup across multiple clinical settings.
Ensure proper ordering, inventory management, and organization of perfusion supplies.
Clean and maintain heart–lung machines and related equipment per manufacturer recommendations.
Support quality assurance and infection control data collection as required.

Completion of an accredited perfusion education program required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Perfusionist to join a premier surgical team in Tulsa, OK. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cardiopulmonary bypass procedures on cardiac surgical patients (approximately 90% of duties) and managing cell saver operations across orthopedic, cardiac, and neurosurgical cases (approximately 10% of duties). This role requires strict adherence to regulatory standards regarding equipment maintenance, supply inventory, and clinical documentation.

Education: Degree from an approved Health Science program and graduation from a CAHEA (AMA) accredited perfusion training program.

Ensure staff are trained on current ECMO standards of care and perfusion technology and receive ongoing education to ensure competency
