Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Perfusion

Ø  Designs and assembles extracorporeal circuits and equipment and maintains patient parameters within guidelines and as ordered by physician for cardiopulmonary bypass, left heart bypass, ventricular assist, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation, veno-venous bypass for liver transplantation, HIPEC, and autologous blood recovery equipment. Administers medications, anesthetic agents, and blood products under the orders and supervision of a physician. Performs chemistry, blood gas, co-oximetry, and activated clotting time tests in the operating room for patients undergoing surgery.

Equipment

Ø  Operates, maintains, calibrates, and performs quality control testing on all of the operating room point of care laboratory equipment. Maintain and monitor cryogenic storage unit for human tissue grafts.

Department Coverage

Ø  Functions in capacity as “Assisting Perfusionist” to primary Perfusionist; duties to include obtaining additional disposable supplies or medicines, charting, performing laboratory tests, troubleshooting equipment failures or malfunctions, relieving primary Perfusionist during lengthy procedures. Provides perfusion call coverage for Cardiothoracic Surgery and Liver Transplantation programs. Provides perfusion support in cardiothoracic surgery research laboratory; participates in various aspects of lab research including protocol generation, CPB, instrument calibration, performing blood gas tests, and tissue sample collection.

Record Keeping and Compliance

Ø  Responsible for accurate and timely perfusion case data entry into perfusion database.  Maintains accurate documentation of perfusion cases and departmental functions for efficient department operation.

Perfusionist

We are seeking a Perfusionist in Wausau, WI at Aspirus Wausau Hospital who is responsible for the operation of the heart/lung machine and any extracorporeal support of the patient undergoing heart surgery or any cardiopulmonary emergency requiring such support. Cases would include valve replacement and repairs, cabg (both on and off pump), Aortic repair or replacement, and A-fib procedures.

Our program offers:

  • 500 hearts a year (roughly 50% off pump)
  • No ECMO but occasional short term ECLS coverage for high-risk interventions (TAVR/Rotoblade)
  • Terumo System 1 Heart Lunch machine and Quest cardioplegia
  • NO pediatrics or transplants, occasional LHB
  • Call pay & CME allowance

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of perfusion standards and practices normally acquired through graduation from an accredited course in perfusion.

Position:

Individuals staffing this position perform clinical perfusion, which is defined as those functions necessary for the support or treatment of the cardiopulmonary/circulatory system of the patient. The perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient’s cardiopulmonary/circulatory function and ensures the proper management of physiologic functions by monitoring the necessary variables.

Requires perfusion experience in applying knowledge of biology, chemistry and physiology in a hospital operating room setting.
Requires open heart surgery and surgical perfusion procedure experience.
Requires the ability to detect meaningful changes in the patient’s condition and use appropriate judgment in determining what changes should be brought to the attention of the surgeon or anesthesiologist.
Requires the ability to make immediate decisions and to respond quickly with appropriate actions during surgery based upon equipment readings and analysis of data.
Requires the ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain a wide variety of cardiovascular perfusion, life support, and blood salvage equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
Applicants to this position with training completed after April 15, 1981 are required to maintain cardiovascular perfusion certification (or to be eligible for the perfusion certification examination process).
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
Applicants who have completed perfusion training after April 15, 1981 are required to have completed satisfactorily their clinical and didactic coursework from an accredited perfusion training program.

Comprehensive Care Services, Inc. is looking for an experienced ECLS Coordinator with at least 3-5 years of experience for Ruby Memorial Hospital at WVU Medicine in Morgantown, WV.

The ECLS Coordinator is responsible for the daily operational, clinical, and administrative coordination of the ECLS program. The ECLS coordinator shall collaborate with the ECLS Medical Director, Director of Perfusion, and the Vice President of ECLS Services in the continued development, organization, evaluation, and sustainment of ECLS program. The ECLS Coordinator will ensure that the ECLS Department meets the quality standards within the resources available as determined in congruence with ECLS steering committee. The ECLS Coordinator will have twenty-four (24) hour responsibility for the ECLS Department.

Must be willing to work flexible schedules. The ECLS coordinator shall possess a Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of 2-years of advanced critical care experience, mechanical support management, and ECLS Education; possess strong leadership, interpersonal, and communicative skills, as well as evidence of commitment to continued education and self-development.

·         RN: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. RN License in WV or compact State License.

·         RRT: Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy Degree. Also requires WV Respiratory License.
