Description:

As the Regional Director of Perfusion, you will hold a pivotal role overseeing all perfusion-related services at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY, and Ellis Medicine in Schenectady, NY. Collaborating closely with on-site perfusion managers, as well as the departments of anesthesia, surgery, and nursing administration, your responsibilities encompass a wide spectrum of critical functions.

Operational Excellence: You will take charge of ensuring the safe and effective operation of equipment, techniques, and procedures related to perfusion. Maintaining rigorous quality control standards will be central to your role.

St Peter’s Hospital is the flagship tertiary care center for a large healthcare network in Upstate, NY, and is ranked in the top 5% of hospitals in NY. Our Cardiac Program consists of 4 Cardiac Surgeons and  6 full-time perfusionists (including this role). SPHP is the largest of 3 open heart programs in the Capital District and one of the busiest in Upstate, NY. We average 600+ procedures annually consisting of all adult open-heart cases and a busy TAVR program. We support minimal ECMO cases and no VAD/Transplants. The on-call duties are rotated among all team members for an excellent work-life balance. We enjoy living in Upstate with four seasons and access to cultural, sports, and entertainment venues in town. The Wright Heart Center at Ellis Hospital is one of only three programs in the Capital Region authorized by the New York State Department of Health to perform cardiac surgery. Ellis Cardiothoracic Surgery is an Ellis Medical Group practice of experienced, board certified cardiothoracic surgeons.

Drs. Herbert Reich and Kyril Choumarov treat heart conditions using advanced surgical procedures, as well as minimally invasive techniques that can shorten recovery times and reduce complications.

Cardiac surgery patients receive specialized care in Ellis’ state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit, featuring the latest telemetry and monitoring technology. Definition of Care or Service:

Performs those functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of a patient. Scope of Service may include:

Qualifications:

Master’s degree
Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular perfusion education program
Certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP)
New York State Perfusion License
American Heart Association or Red Cross health care provider BLS Certification

The Certified Cardiovascular Perfusionist will demonstrate:

The safe and effective operation of cardiac perfusion equipment
Maintains equipment in good working order
Informs Biomed of maintenance that needs to be performed on equipment
Demonstrates effective infection control practices related to equipment operation
Accurate patient information review
Uses at least two ways to identify patients before treating or performing a procedure
Verifies that the requested procedure correlates with the patient’s clinical history, presentation, and physician order
Participates in the pre-procedure process to verify the correct procedure, for the correct patient, at the correct site and involves the patient in the verification process when possible
Participates in a time-out immediately before the start of an invasive procedure or making of the incision.
Accesses the patient medical record appropriately

Labels all medications and solutions on and off the sterile field in perioperative and procedural settings

The team in St Helena is comprised of two highly successful surgeons, wonderful and easy to get along with support staff. We provide coverage for about 100 standby cases and a 150 pump cases per year. This workload is shared between two people.

The Staff Perfusionist is responsible for operation of extra-corporal equipment providing care and/or support activities appropriate for all ages served. Duties include cardiopulmonary bypass, auto transfusion, intra aortic balloon pump counter pulsation, stand-by support, short and long term ventricular assist, and other related assignments deemed necessary to support Perfusion Services.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

MINIMUM REQUIRED: Graduation from an accredited perfusion program. Credentialed by the CMC Medical Staff Office as an Allied Health Professional and privileged to perform Perfusionist standardized procedures.

PREFERRED: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED: Current certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. Current BLS and ACLS certification.

We are looking for an experienced Staff Perfusionist with 3+ years’ experience.  Will consider strong new graduates.  This position will work at multiple hospitals in Denver, CO, performing procedures relative to the physiological management of patients’ circulatory and respiratory functions during and following cardiac surgery, under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist and operating surgeon.   Must be willing to work flexible schedules. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Prepares and operates the heart-lung machine during open heart surgery, including the determination and calculation of bypass requirements for each patient.

2. Monitors equipment closely during surgery for any change in patient’s condition and informs physician(s) immediately of change.

3. Assesses patient for metabolic and respiratory abnormalities during cardiopulmonary bypass and initiates treatment.

4. Provides and/or directs the provision of autotransfusion services, blood gas analysis, activated clotting times, heparin assay analysis, dialysis and mechanical circulatory support.

5. Operates and/or directs the operation of the intra-aortic balloon pump during and after insertion.

6. Correlates and records data obtained during the surgical procedure; including participation in the maintenance of departmental records, reports and charts.

7. Provides perfusion back-up services in the course of Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty as requested by the physician.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of accredited perfusion program. Evidence of commitment to continued education and self-development. Orientation to duties to be accomplished within six months. Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, health care team members, patients and their families.
