Perfusionists are daily supervised and given routine work assignments and responsibilities by the Director. Perform assigned clinical and non-clinical functions as directed and supervised by the Director, and/or perform specialized perfusion services in conjunction with assistance of a Senior Perfusionist and the Attending Cardiac Surgeon. Under the order of the Attending Physician, the Perfusionist provides patient care in the form of support services of extracorporeal circulation and/or oxygenation, myocardial and/or organ protection and preservation, blood component and drug/fluid administration. This includes assembly and operation of the heart-lung machine and extracorporeal circuits, operation of heater, coolers and cardioplegia delivery systems, also blood concentrators, coagulation monitors and long term assist devices, etc. This may include operation of devices such as adult IABP, VAS, ECMO and CPS.

Qualifications (Requirements)

  • Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry. Advanced knowledge of blood flow throughout the body, of pressures and gas exchange within the body of adult, pediatric, and infant patients.
  • Knowledge of blood components, plasma composition, body fluids, and medication administration and interaction extracorporeal devices.
  • Ability to write clearly and neatly while recording patient data and performing other clinical tasks.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques in the delivery of patient care.
  • Ability to spend 95% of working time sitting, stooping, standing, reaching up and down pulling equipment and supplies carefully and safely.

The Assistant Director of Perfusion is responsible for managing the day-to-day clinical operation and the administrative functions of the Cardiac Perfusion services and the ECMO Program and will report to the director of Perfusion. The assistant director may perform all duties independently in the absence of the director. The assistant director may be involved in the strategic short and long range planning, performance improvement, affirmative action, staff competency and research as needed to support the growth of the service line in collaboration with the director. The assistant director will also help establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures and all regulatory agencies including DHS, JCAHO, OSHA and other pertinent agencies. The assistant director will also provide leadership and direction for the staff while promoting quality, safe and cost-effective patient care in conjunction with and in absence of the director of Perfusion Services. The Assistant Director of Perfusion will report to the Director of Perfusion, but will be expected to work independently.

Salary Range: $146,000 – $371,300 annually. REQUIRED:

Graduate of a cardiovascular perfusion education program.

Minimum of two years job-related prior experience; pediatrics experience preferred.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

Provides clinical and product education to Healthcare Professionals on the full portfolio of LivaNova Cardiopulmonary products. Training sessions may be conducted in person or virtually and must align with all approved instructions for use.  These sessions include coordinating hospital clinical and non-clinical demonstrations, in-person and virtual education programs, intra-operative case coverage, supporting product evaluations and ad hoc training when needed.  The clinical specialist must both work independently within their role but remain highly collaborative with their team and company stakeholders (sales).  Therefore, the individual must be able to work independently, work as collaborator and manage internal stakeholders, as well as manage their own time effectively.

PRIMARY ACTIVITIES

  • Provides clinicians and medical staff clear clinical instructions to ensure continuity of education and support related to all aspects of patient outcomes, in accordance with the product’s Instructions for Use (IFU)
  • Coordinates, directs, and delivers clinical training programs on LivaNova products, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains product knowledge excellence of the LivaNova CP portfolio of products.
