This role provides per diem coverage across D.C., Delaware, and the Baltimore area. A minimum commitment of five (5) available days per month is required.

We are seeking a Certified Clinical Perfusionist / Autotransfusion Technologist with ECMO capabilities to provide advanced perfusion services for cardiothoracic surgeries and critical care support. In this role, you will assist surgeons during bypass and valve procedures, operate and maintain heart-lung machines, autotransfusion pumps, intra-aortic balloon pumps, and centrifugal VADs, while ensuring safe extracorporeal circulation and preventing complications like air emboli.

This position involves 90% direct patient care, including ECMO and ICU support, with 10% administrative duties such as quality documentation and occasional meetings.

Qualified candidates must hold ABCP certification, BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association, a degree from an accredited School of Perfusion Technology, we prefer at least 4 years of experience with 300 clinical cases, and evidence of ongoing CMEs

The schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, with 24/7 on-call coverage.

The Perfusionist is supervised daily and given routine work assignments and responsibilities by the Director. Routine patient care is under the direction of the Director and the Attending Cardiac Surgeon. We’re seeking a highly-motivated, flexible individual with:

A Bachelor’s degree with graduation from an accredited perfusion program.
BCLS certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
CCP (within 24 months of graduation).
Experience with a variety of heart-lung machines, centrifugal pumps, IABP, implantable ventricular assist devices, intraoperative auto transfusion devices, blood saturation monitors, hemodynamic pressure transducers, ECMO, anticoagulation monitors, etc.

We are seeking a Per Diem Staff Perfusionist to supporting our brand new SpecialtyCare team in Austin, TX at St. David’s Healthcare Network. The clinical trainer in CVP will work with students individually and in small groups in the high-fidelity simulation laboratory to teach and develop foundational clinical skills for perfusionists. This is an hourly, part-time position (up to 16 hours per week), scheduled during the fall and spring semesters of the academic year (32 weeks). This position will provide the critical education needed to transition to the clinical phase of training successfully.

​CCS is looking for a motivated Per Diem Perfusionist (CCP) to join the team to assist with our Normothermic Regional Perfusion (NRP) efforts utilizing a mini cardiopulmonary bypass circuit.  This candidate will be in the Charleston, SC area and will have at least 3 years of experience as a CCP.

As a key part of the Organ Procurement team the candidate will be responsible for preparation and operation of the mini-bypass circuit.  The candidate will have strong communication and coordination skills along with the ability to work independently.  In this role, the candidate will provide safe and effective management of bypass during the organ retrieval.  Candidate will demonstrate competence in Point of Care devices and treat the corresponding variables: acid/base balance, hemoglobin level, volume management, Cardiac output, electrolytes and temperature.  Will be required to maintain thorough perfusion records before, during and after the retrieval.  They will be able to operate, maintain and calibrate all relevant points of care equipment.  Ensures inventory and supplies are maintained, sorted and received for the region.  The Perfusionist will travel to various hospitals throughout the state of South Carolina.

Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with nursing staff, health care team members, patients, and families. Responsibilities
• Assembles equipment and medications to a particular procedure. Sets-up, primes and de-bubbles functioning unit under aseptic conditions. Verifies operation of mechanical and ventilation systems, including safety devices.
• Develops preoperative perfusion plan and calculates perfusion formulae based on patient’s medical history.
• Establishes continuous arterial-venous system on the patient at the beginning of open-heart surgery. Continuously monitors physiological parameters and evaluates perfusion technique.
• Sets-up, calibrates and monitors in-line monitoring devices. Evaluates data and adapts perfusion plan.
• Alters perfusion plan during surgery to meet the needs of patient or surgeon, or mechanical failure.
• Ensures termination of perfusion and support of vital signs when heart and lungs resume functioning following surgery. Documents perfusion activities in patient record. Charges for supplies and services used.
• Disassembles heart-lung pump. Disposes of contaminated materials, cleaning up non-disposable parts.
• Maintains instruments, medication and equipment supplies for caseload/emergencies.
• Sets-up and operates blood conservation systems for open-heart patients.
• Operates intra-aortic balloon pump for open-heart patients.
• Provides ventricular assist technology to patient. If roller or centrifugal pumps are utilized, provides 24-hour coverage until assist effort is terminated.
• Performs regular inspections and routine maintenance of perfusion equipment. Arranges for periodic professional service at appropriate intervals and emergency services.
• Completes statistics for data-base, research and quality assurance purposes.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree with 2 years post-graduate school in Perfusion or the equivalent in education and experience required. • Experience with membrane oxygenation, roller and centrifugal pumps, and intra-aortic balloon pumps preferred. • Keeps abreast of current developments in the field and of quality assurance and liability issues.

Job Summary:

Essential Generic Job Functions (List in order of importance):

Under the guidelines of the primary surgeon conducts cardiopulmonary bypass safely in accordance with the department’s policy and procedures and the standard accepted practices of the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology and the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Under the guidelines of the primary surgeon insures all routine and emergency cases are performed according to Policy and Procedure.
Under the guidelines of the primary surgeon reviews patient’s medical record prior to each procedure to assess the scope of disease/illness and make appropriate judgments concerning prime selection, additional fluid choices, drug usage during bypass, and techniques of conducting bypass.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to provide extracorporeal services to patients from adult to geriatric and makes appropriate changes to equipment, supplies, and techniques to best meet the needs of the patient and the policy and procedures of the primary surgeon.
Maintains readiness to initiate bypass throughout the procedure.   Prior to bypass completes and records the baseline activated clotting time, baseline blood gases, baseline Cerebral Oximetry data, the autotransfusion checklist, and the pre bypass checklist.
Under the guidelines of the primary surgeon makes appropriate responses to the patient’s medical status when using the intra-aortic balloon pump, auto-transfusion, and ventricular assist devices.  Records all responses appropriately.
Communicates with the surgeon and the anesthesiologist throughout the procedure as to the condition of the patient.
Under the guidelines of the primary surgeon monitors anticoagulation, acid-base, hemodynamics, Cerebral Oximetry, hemodilution, and homeostasis.  Keeps all parameters within acceptable limits set by the department’s policy and procedures.
Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.) This process includes communicating with the patient, parent and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
Performs point of care blood gas analysis. Proficiently performs patient blood gas analysis, electronic quality controls, liquid quality controls, data management and result reporting.
Performs Hemostasis Management utilizing the Medtronic Plus Hemostasis Management System. Proficiently performs patient blood samples, electronic quality controls, liquid quality controls, data management, and result reporting.
Completes patient’s record utilizing the department’s computerized record system.  Accurately completes the perfusion record, all required checklists, the cardiac surgery database, and billing forms.
Provide coverage at affiliate and partnership locations, when request.
Lifts a minimum of 70 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 300 lbs. and stands a minimum of 8 hours a day.
Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies.

Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of a degree in perfusion technology, other related science, or equivalent.
Knowledge, Education and Skills Preferred:

3 years of clinical perfusion experience.

Required Certification/Licensing:

Must be licensed by the State of New Jersey.
For qualified new perfusion graduates, must be licensed by the State of New Jersey with a Temporary License as outlined in NJ Perfusionist regulation 13:35-13:10, with full license by the State of New Jersey to be obtained within one year of hire date.
Preferred Certification/Licensing:

Must be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or actively seeking certification if not currently licensed in the State of New Jersey.
