The Perfusionist is responsible for operation and maintenance of the heart-lung machine, cardiopulmonary support devices including intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation as well as blood loss management equipment such as Cell Saver and Rapid Infuser.

The Perfusionist will set up, prime, initiate and troubleshoot extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for the infant, pediatric and adult patients. The Perfusionist performs intra-operative Point-of-Care testing (ACTs, ABGs) for the cardiothoracic patient, and initiates, manages and troubleshoots ventricular assist devices.

As a leader within the department, the Perfusionist oversees the duties and performance of the Perfusion Assistants in the absence of the Chief Perfusionist.

As a Perfusionist in an academic setting, the individual assists with research activities relating to extracorporeal circulation which include data collection, evaluation and analysis on all cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. Additionally, the Perfusionist contributes their expertise by assisting faculty researchers in design of projects and preparation of proposals. Other academic support will include developing new research and clinical protocols and procedures, modifying existing protocols, and assisting in preclinical testing of new devices and techniques prior to their use in patient care areas of the Hospital.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

Graduate of an American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) accredited school of perfusion technology required.
Current certification by the ABCP as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) or attain CCP status within one (1) year of graduation from an ABCP accredited school of perfusion technology required.
A valid, current license in the State of Pennsylvania or licensure eligible is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology, Physiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Nursing, Perfusion Sciences or related field preferred.

Position Summary:

The ECMO Educator is responsible for developing, maintaining, and evaluating training and education activities for mechanical circulatory support programs. This role provides direct clinical care to patients of all ages requiring mechanical circulatory support in critical care settings. The ECMO Educator also plays a key role in evaluating devices, establishing protocols in collaboration with ECMO Leadership, and monitoring program outcomes and trends through data management and benchmarking.

Key Responsibilities:

Position Summary / Department Summary: 

The ECMO Specialist is enrolled and actively participating in the department’s ECMO Training Program. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the skills necessary to proficiently and safely establish, manage, and control extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) technology and assist with associated procedures in acutely ill patients of all ages in critical care settings. The specialist will learn to troubleshoot devices and associated equipment under the supervision of experienced ECMO personnel, provide ongoing care through surveillance of clinical and physiologic parameters, adjust ECLS devices as needed, administer and document blood products and medications in accordance with hospital standards, provide airway and ventilator management, and perform the full scope of practice of a Respiratory Therapist II.

Schedule: 36 hours per week, rotating day/night shifts, every third weekend.

Key Responsibilities:

Assemble, prepare, and maintain extracorporeal circuits and associated equipment with assistance.
Assist in priming extracorporeal circuits and preparing systems for clinical application.
Assist with cannulation procedures.
Assist in establishing extracorporeal support; monitor patient response, provide routine assessments, circuit evaluations, patient monitoring, and anticoagulation management.
Assist with ECMO circuit interventions, weaning procedures, and transports.
Administer blood products per hospital standards.

Participate in professional development, simulation, and continuing education.

Epic Cardiovascular Staffing is looking for a full-time Staff Perfusionist​ to join their team in the Valley Health System, Las Vegas, Nevada. This individual will perform procedures relative to the physiological management of patients’ circulatory and respiratory functions during cardiac surgery, under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist and operating surgeon. The Staff Perfusionist will ultimately join a staff of seven perfusionists.

This position involves responsibilities at three locations, Valley Hospital, Spring Valley Hospital, and Summerlin Hospital. These locations are approximately 10 miles apart and offer a comprehensive range of advanced cardiovascular and surgical services. An additional Valley Health System heart program is scheduled to open in 2026 at a new facility in West Henderson, a high-growth area near the Raiders Football Stadium.

Requirements:

  • Candidate must be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
  • A Nevada Perfusion License will be required (Epic financed).
  • Candidates must demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills and communication skills necessary to interact professionally with nursing staff, healthcare team members, patients, and families.
